Fax-to-LLM

Finally, we are bringing generative AI into the fax Era.

Fax-to-LLM is an experimental service that allows users to interact with Large Language Models via Fax.

Instead of using a web interface or API, simply send a prompt by fax and receive a faxed response generated by an AI model.

This project explores how generative AI can integrate with legacy communication systems still widely used in enterprises, public adminitrations, healthcare and legal sectors.

Because AI should work with every interface, including the ones from 1987 !

Why Fax-Native AI ?

Despite decades of digital transformation, fax machines remain an essential communication tool in many industries. Fax-to-LLM introduces a paper-first prompting workflow that enables organizations to experiment with generative AI without changing their existing processes.

This initiative is part of the Digital Literacy & AI Adoption Program

Fax-to-LLM is part of our initiative to explore accessible interfaces for generative AI adoption. We believe innovation should be inclusive of existing tools, habits, and workflows, even when they predate the internet

How it Works : use EcoFax + mail

Step 1

Make sure you subscribed to our EcoFax service and have it properly configured

Step 2

Enter the number in the format +33482532630@ecofax.fr in the “To” field

Step 3

Enter your number, without spaces, in the “Subject” field.

Step 4

Attach the document to be faxed as an email attachment.

Step 5

Enter a password in the body of the email, preceded by “p:”.

Average response time depends on prompt length, number of pages, coffee break duration

For optimal results:     ✔ Write clearly    ✔ Use dark ink    ✔ Avoid handwriting that resembles encryption    ✔ Send one prompt per page

⚠️

Do not staple prompts. Staples may interfere with the prompt ingestion pipeline.

Paper-First Prompting

Write prompts naturally on paper, send them by fax, and receive AI-generated responses printed automatically.

No need to learn new software, navigate complex interfaces, or adapt to digital workflows. If you can write a memo and operate a fax machine, you can use generative AI.

Air-Gapped Generative AI

Fax networks provide a naturally air-gapped interaction channel, reducing risks associated with direct internet access.

Your prompts never touch the public internet until they reach our secure ingestion facility, and responses return through the same isolated telephony infrastructure.

Perfect for organizations with strict data sovereignty requirements or those operating in classified environments where Wi-Fi is prohibited but landlines are approved.

AI for Experienced Professionals, No Tools Required

Designed for teams who prefer physical workflows, printed documentation, and non-browser interfaces. No training sessions, no password resets, no browser compatibility issues, and no "please update your app" notifications. Your decades of fax machine expertise translate directly into AI proficiency.

If you have a fax machine, you already have access to the interface. No downloads, no installations, no IT department approval needed. The same device you've used for contracts, purchase orders, and interdepartmental memos now connects you to cutting-edge language models. Zero learning curve, maximum productivity.

"We needed AI, but our firewall blocks everything"

After rejecting 47 different AI solutions for security reasons, Fax-to-LLM was the first system our compliance team approved. The air gap is literal

"I don't trust computers"

I've practiced law for 40 years using a fax machine and paper files. Why should AI be any different? This is the only AI interface I'm willing to use.

"Finally, AI that works with our existing workflow"

"We still fax administrative documents between departments and send déclarations to other préfectures. Now we can also fax them to an AI for preliminary review. Our existing télécommunication infrastructure finally supports l'intelligence artificielle."

FAQ

Is this real?

The fax machine on our end is very real. We feed it daily.

What happens if I send a blank page?

You'll receive a faxed meditation on emptiness and the void. (Actual AI response time: 3-5 minutes)

Can I send handwritten prompts?

Yes, but legibility strongly affects quality. Cursive handwriting is supported but may produce creative interpretations.

What if my fax doesn't go through?

Check that you included the country code. Also ensure your fax machine has paper and toner. These are surprisingly common issues.

Do you support eFax?

Technically yes, even if it defeats the entire philosophical purpose of the project.

Can I use this for production workloads?

We strongly recommend starting with a pilot program of 10,000 pages/month.

Is there a character limit?

No, but we recommend keeping prompts under 50 pages. Our longest processed prompt was 247 pages (a full legal brief). Response time: 6 hours.

What paper weight works best?

20-24 lb paper. Anything heavier may jam in your fax machine. We cannot be held responsible for fax machine repairs.
